Computer forensics is beginning to play an important role in preserving potential evidence in both criminal and civil matters. It is the systematic examination of computer hardware to determine what data it contains. The approach to obtaining the information stored has to ensure that the data remains intact, and all results must always be able to be duplicated. That means that if one examiner finds a particular bit of data on examined hardware, another examiner should be able to do the same.
